More about Suzanne Spurgeon’s qualifications

Prior to being promoted to CNN Vice President, Suzanne worked as an Executive Producer at the network.  Earlier in her career, Suzanne was a local television Reporter/Anchor in the Milwaukee, Peoria and Des Moines markets.

In recent years, Suzanne served as Director of Communications at UTLA, the second largest teachers’ union local in the country. Suzanne improved media relations during her tenure and facilitated local and network interviews for union officers. She staged news conferences, wrote news releases and executive talking points, produced videos, updated the website, posted to social media, and wrote newsletters and other pieces for internal distribution to members.

Here’s what some of Suzanne’s colleague say about her work:

"I've known her for a decade as someone steeped in the standards and ethics of news reporting, and who also knows how to manage an organization with complicated demands and constant deadlines. Suzanne has the sort of personal and professional skills essential in any environment where communications count."

–Judy Woodruff, PBS NewsHour Anchor, and former CNN Anchor

“Suzanne is a skilled, energetic high level media professional. She handles a large volume of multi-channel communications tasks while keeping calm. It was a pleasure to work with her in the communications department. She keeps the big picture messaging in mind, with thorough attention to every detail.”
